AN INTRODUCTORY TEXT BOOK OF LINGUISTICS AND PHONETICS

"An Introductory Textbook of Linguistics and Phonetics is a simple and easy introduction to linguistic science. It touches upon a wide variety of linguistic horizons, perspectives, levels, aspects, branches and schools, and is written with a view to serving the Indian students and teachers. A number of examples and illustrations are given from Indian languages to make the basic concept intelligible. It is designed in accordance with the syllabuses of Indian Universities. Disciplines such as Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Stylistics, and Applied Linguistics have also been touched upon. Dr Varshney, who was declared an outstanding teacher at the UGC summer institute in English held at Panjab University, Chandigarh and was subsequently granted a UGC fellowship for further studies at Central Institute of English and foreign languages, Hyderabad, justified the fellowship fully and appreciably. He spent years together in the preparation of this work, and his sincere attempt will amply benefit the academic community in India.
